THAT. WAS. AWESOME!
Pasted the link. . . then when I saw the title I decided to skip it. XP
The one with the bot fly larvas growing in the dude's back almost made me puke in my mouth. I used to have a reoccurring nightmare about that, but didn't know it was something that could actually happen. yecccccccccch.
That's why I skipped it.

Tanner and I went to Barnes & Noble tonight to stock up on Criterion Collection films (they're currently all 50% off). I picked up a set of science films by Jean Painleve and I'm watching it now. The imagery is mind-blowingly beautiful, especially his macro-cinematography of liquid crystals.
I'm amazed that I was never turned on to Painleve before. While he is a science documentary filmmaker (and obviously very influential on the science films that have come out since and are popular on TV shows on PBS/Discovery/National Geographic/etc., he has a poetic and cinematic formalist flair that makes his films more than scientific record, but true works of art in themselves. Viewed only for the images themselves, Painleve's formalism and mastery of composition and light rivals even Stan Brakhage.
This YouTube video (with an alternative soundtrack) doesn't do Painleve's images justice at all, but if you want to see them in all their glory, I highly recommend ordering the set from B&N's website (it's a three disc set for only $19.99, plus 10% off if you're a B&N member).
