So this announcement is a bit late, but for those who don't know, Neon Magus has officially joined the AE family, and we're all super pumped about it. (Any of you who witnessed their scorching set from this past Thursday knows why.) Equally exciting is the recent development vis-a-vis the band's upcoming debut EP. I'm sure some of you have heard of Hotel2Tango, the recording studio up in Montreal owned by Efrim and Thierry of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Howard Bilerman, the former drummer and sound engineer for the Arcade Fire. Well, Will (Neon Magus' axeman) sent some sound samples to Howard, and he got back in touch with Will to let him know that he dug what he heard and agreed to record and mix the band's EP in January! (This is the dude who recorded and mixed Funeral, mind you.) In a great interview with Howard, which outlines some of the work he's done and describes his processes, he said, "When I was younger, I used to dream about equipment. 'One day I’ll have enough money for a condenser mic'...stuff like that. Now, all I dream about is that good and interesting bands will ask me to record their records." Oh hell yes.
